Battery life issues with Sierra 10.12.6
The battery life on my MacBook is significantly shorter since I upgraded to Sierra 10.12.6. Is there are fix coming for this or is this the new normal?
I'm using my MacBook in the same way that I did prior to upgrading and now the battery drains to 25% within 3-4 hours. Used to run a good 8 hours before dropping that low.
I primarily do fairly simple tasks such as writing basic text emails, pages documents, work with numbers a bit, and internet reading and commenting. I've been using the same web sites all along, too. So no changes there. Occasionally I'll sift through and email a couple of photos, but even on days when I never even go into my photos, it drains just as quickly.
Also seems to run a tad warmer, but it is summer. So, I don't know if that's just the weather or if that's really changed.
Hi,
Try resetting the SMC: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295.
Also, the battery percentage estimate doesn't always work correctly. Only the actual run time you get matters. Are you sure that has changed?
The list of issues affected by the SMC includes something my husband's MacBook sometimes does (whirring fan when it is well-ventilated and he isn't doing anything that should cause the Mac to overheat). So, thanks for that.
As far as my battery life issue, resetting the SMC didn't seem to make much difference at first, but now I'm not sure. It might be better - I'll keep monitoring.
After a update to Sierra version 10.12.6,
i get a cross by battery.
before the update, he worked normal.
i did a smc reset, no luck.
stays on, (no battery)
in dutch (geen battery beschikbaar)
if i push te button on the left side of the macbook pro
all leds are burning
he indicates battery full.
but if i unconnect the power, no startup from the macbook pro (2011)
Is there a workaround ??
You don't say how old the machine is or its version, but I have a 2015MBP with retina, and since I upgraded to 10.12.6 (from ElCap) the battery changes are insignificant. My daily tasks are much as yours except that I spend quite some time helping here. The temperature in summer does not seem to affect it, but this is England, summer heat this year has been a rarity. What could make it warm would be playing games but you don't mention that so I guess you don't.
This is an older MBP from 2011 and was working normal before the update,
but now it says, no battery available on top with a cross inside the battery icon.
i think its a bug, because it worked before the update.
maybe only on older MBP's, i don't know.
but i hope we get a fix for this.
i update from 10.9.5 btw.
