dvd stuck in 2010 mac pro internal super drive

I was trying to copy a dvd and now the top drive is frozen shut with the dvd inside.

I've tried restarting with and without the eject button held down.

There is no icon to drag to the trash.

I also tried to press a straightened paper clip into the hole.

When I try Terminal / drutil eject, the lower drawer opens but not the top

Sounds like the disk is (literally) jammed inside. You may need to take the drive out of the Mac Pro and remove the drive case to get the disk out.
