Apple Watch (Original 1st Generation) Battery P...
My wife just upgraded her watch to WatchOS 3.2.3 over the weekend. Yesterday, after about 9 hours of wearing it, it drained to 10%. That is using no active activity apps. Just wearing it as a watch. She noticed it last night about 6:30 when she was going to activate her exercise activity that it was down to 10%
She just called me about it today. After 8 hours of normal wear, it's back down to 10%.
It charges fine. In fact, it charges back to 100% in about 45 minutes or less. It's just a constant drain now that is annoying. It seems to have happened after the update.
I do not have that problem (yet) - my watch is a series 2 and it is stuck on 3.2.2. Every time I "check for updates", it says 3.2.2 is the most up-to-date version.
Hi
Battery life varies depending on use and other factors. Examples are detailed here:
Apple's tips for maximising battery life on Apple Watch are detailed here:
If your wife's Apple Watch is experiencing significantly shorter battery life than Apple's examples suggest that you should expect and/or than you were experiencing before, then it may require battery service. Before contacting Apple, it may help to follow these steps, which have previously resolved battery life issues for other users, including those experienced after installing software updates, when their usage has not changed:
- Restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch, turning both off together and then restarting your iPhone first:
- If you have ever (not necessarily recently) previously used the Workout app and/or any third-party fitness or sleep tracking apps to record workouts on your watch, check on your watch to see whether there is a paused activity within any of them. If there is, end that activity from within the app on your watch (not your iPhone).
- If in doubt, remove any such third-party apps from your Apple Watch.
- Unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:
- The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch automatically when unpairing via the app.
- When setting it up again, initially choose to Restore from Backup. Most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).
- If the issue persists, consider instead unpairing and setting it up as a new watch.
- Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone - Apple Support
- Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support
- The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch automatically when unpairing via the app.
- Some users have previously experienced battery life issues in connection with using corporate profiles and/or Exchange Calendars. If you are using an Exchange Calendar, one or more of these steps may help:
- Archive your Exchange Calendar for all items before today.
- Remove / delete all old inbox messages relating to calendar invites (accept and decline notifications).
- Create a rule in your Outlook Mail account that moves all future accept and decline replies, immediately upon receipt, into a separate mail folder that does not sync with your iPhone and Apple Watch.
- Check your Exchange Calendar for errors.
- Finally, it may help to:
- Remove third-party apps from the Dock and/or from your watch and then monitor battery performance after adding them back, one at a time.
- Remove watch face complications and monitor battery performance as you add them back:
Having tried the previous steps, if the issue persists, I suggest contacting Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), making a Genius Bar reservation or visiting an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance, including - if recommended - to have the Apple Watch inspected and serviced:

First update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS (start by making a backup):
Then update your Apple Watch by following the steps here:
I updated my original Sport Apple watch on Monday night. The update went fine with no errors, it just took awhile. Previously, I had no problems with battery life, wearing the watch for 14-15 hours a day would see it drop to only about 55%. Since the 3.2.3 update it drops into power saving mode (i.e. less than 10%) after only 5-6 hours. I have tried restarting both watch and phone (iPhone 7+) and all the battery life tips that I can find but no improvement. I may need to visit the Apple Store if I can't find a solution in the next day or two.
Bye Jeff.
Same here. Series 1. Used to get through the day with 30-50% still left. Every day since the update my watch has died by 7:00pm. I'd like to get 3.2.2 back.
Last night I unpaired the watch from my iPhone. This took awhile as it makes a backup of the watch. Then shutdown and restarted both watch and phone and then re-paired my watch to the iPhone and restored from the backup that it had just made. So far today it appears to have fixed the problem as the watch battery is at 80% after 7 hours of use. So hopefully the un-pair and re-pair seems to have fixed the problem.
Bye Jeff.

Follow the same steps in my previous reply which have resolved battery life issues for other users, including those experienced after installing software updates, when their usage has not changed.
Follow up... unpairing, erasing all data and settings, repairing and restoring got me back in good shape. The watch is using less battery than I can ever recall.
You're welcome!
I am having the same problem. My watch is down to 42 percent after 6 hours of minimal usage.

Software version 3.2.3 definitely has a battery issue. My Series 2 now has a problem where the watch, which may be showing as much as 70% battery remaining, will abruptly warn of low power and shut down. (It doesn't just go into low power mode, it shuts off completely.) Putting it back on the charger brings it back to life with the same majority charge (e.g. 70%) that it had before it shut off, although removing it from the charger right away will cause it to shut down again quickly. Note that this isn't simply a case of inaccurate battery read-out on-screen; before 3.2.3 my Series 2 could go two days between charges and now it randomly -- since there is no telling when this problem will occur -- may not make it even 2/3 of a day.
I know of a couple of other people who have this exact issue now as well.
It sure does, I started having the problem the day I updated, but all you hear on this blog is bla bla bla do this and bla bla bla do that. Even Apple refuses to acknowledge there is a problem with the 3.2.3. My friend at work was holding off doing the update because of my issue but he decided last night to give it a shot and guess what....excessive battery drain. I guess Apple doesn't have an "Apple Einstein" to figure out the problem.
You got 8 hours if charge time from your apple watch? Wow, I am lucky if I get 4 hours
and that is after turning off all things that can drain the battery, such as color, animations etc.
Apple Watch 1Gen *****, if I had known it would have basically been a Beta test watch in
which I paid like $700.00 for I wouldn't have purchased it. But noooooooo, I
HAD to have the very 1st Generation! UGH!
