Hello BobBurns,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that your iPad Pro Smart Keyboard is not responding all the time. I recommend the steps in the following article to help resolve this type of issue:

Use your Smart Keyboard with iPad Pro

Get help

If your iPad Pro doesn't detect your Smart Keyboard or you see an "Accessory not supported" alert on your iPad Pro, make sure there's no debris or plastic covering on the Smart Connector pins on the keyboard or the Smart Connector on the iPad Pro. Also, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard are in the Type position.
  2. Remove the Smart Keyboard from your iPad Pro.
  3. Restart your iPad Pro.
  4. Reconnect the Smart Keyboard.

Best Regards

I just bought this keyboard yesterday.  What I have found is that it needs to be at a slight incline.  If it is flat on a table, it won't work.  If i place a book under the front edge, then it starts working.  Weird.  Taking it back today.

This is helpful to know, however a significant interruption in work to get it functioning again.  Aj_jac had a useful suggestion that putting the key-board on a slight incline works, that worked for me.  Thank you both.

CClearly there is a bug associated with the Smart Keyboard and os10, there are dozens of similar complaints on this forum.  Apple, please fix soon!

I Have had issues and recently captured this "device is not supported" message with nothing connected other than the keyboard and an Apple Pencil?IMG_0072.PNG

I was having the exact same issue, including the "accessory is not supported" message.  Do you have any third party keyboards installed?  I just deleted SwiftKey and it started working again and thinking about the issue I believe it began around when I switched from Swype to SwiftKey so thinking, at least in my case, that SwiftKey may have been the issue.

Thanks for the feedback ranette1457, no I don't have any 3rd party keyboards running.

Having the same issue! Tried all suggestions here but the smart keyboard only works intermittently. All since iOS 10 update. What's the problem and why are we still waiting for a solution? Very poor from Apple.

I get  a chiming sound and flicker screen. Even after disconnecting the keyboard.

Laposta:

i have the same screen flicker issue, pops up a battery level image when it occurs with me.  In my case it goes away when I physically disconnect the key board.

I have been experience a similor issue since the new IoS 10 was released... I keep getting a random error message telling me that my device is not supported with the IpadPro. This often happens even when I am not using the

I get the same error message, even when I am not using the key board.. When it appears; then the smart board is unresponsive for some time and then its a big hassle to get it sorted again! Please fix apple! Too expensive not to!

I went to the Apple Store in Bologna Italy, they said it had to be replaced which they did in a second. Shock horror, Italian keyboard (not QWERTY) so I couldn't use it. It Munich they changed it one minute! Really when it comes to customer service Apple is terrific.

Just take the keyboard back, its a hardware issue.

Was about to post the same thing. Ended up having it replaced at an Apple Store in N.Y. but yes my guess is most everyone in this thread has a bad keyboard.
