Mackbook Pro 2017 heats up when connected to an...

I have attached the specs of my Mackbook below.

I notice that my Mac heats up when connecting to an external display, and I had the same issue even before upgrading to the new Mac OS. The heat is mostly felt right above the touch bar, I assume there is a battery underneath it.

I am using an Amazon usb-c to HDMI adapter to connect to my external display unit.
Please advise next steps.
