Ipad photo sync error

Just updated iTunes and iPad Mini 4 to ios11. Since then, every time I try to sync photos from my desktop to my iPad via iTunes, I get the following message after about 70% of photos transferring: "the ipad cannot be synched. an internal device error occurred". this has only happened since downloading ios11. Any one else having a similar issue?
