Replacing logic board

Where is the best/cheaper option to replace a logic board for Macbook Pro. Recently my MacBook Pro stopped switching on . A visit to a Apple support center confirmed that the logic board failed and it has to be replaced. It would cost me half the price of a New MacBook Pro to replace it. I bought the MacBook Pro on October 2011.

Please suggest me any cheaper alternatives to replace the logic board. By the way I am from Hyderabad, India.

You are in a world of hurt.

New logic boards can only be purchased from Apple and they do not sell to individuals. Just their Stores, service centers and authorized dealers. And you've already seen how much that costs.

Only alternative are used boards pulled from Macs of same model that died due to some other cause. And those come unwarranted or with a very limited warranty. Plus they don't come cheap. Can look in PowerBookMedic.com or IFixIt.com for prices and alternatives, they offer international shipping. Or hunt around in your local shops. If you go that route, the most important item to check when installing the board is to get the heatsink assembly for the GPU and CPU installed correctly (thermal grease, etc.). Else the board will die like its predecessor.

Or shop for a used Mac of similar vintage. Can use yours for parts. For instance, if you find a good one with just a broken display, negotiate a steep discount, then swap your good display in.

Or start saving for a new Mac. New models are bound to appear between tomorrow and Dec. 31, I assure you!

I dont see any point in buying a new Mac again...... As you suggested I will look for any alternative damaged Macbook Pros and If I cannot find one, will go for an alternative cheaper brand. I did not expect this from an Apple product, which are touted so much for their quality. Thanks for your suggestions.

All electronic products are mass manufactured. Their failure rate follows a Standard Distribution bell curve. Sometimes you get one at the middle, sometime at the ends. I had a similar experience right when you were buying yours. My Early 2008 MBP had worked flawlessly till that night, when I put it to sleep after work. When I tried to wake it up again, the board was dead. Ended buying what I have now. That has been the only Mac that failed me, of 8 altogether and since 1992.

This is Apple.... Not some random brand..... I am not paying that premium to fall under the same bell curve....

Hi, I'm facing same problem right now, I'm from bangalore, i had paid 55k for macbook pro 13 inch on Amazon, now the MLB has corrosion marks and the replacement costs 48k, i dont know what to do, did you find any alternate solution?
