iPad Pro 10.5 bent and is getting worse

I purchased an iPad Pro 10.5 eight days ago. After opening the box I noticed that there was a very very tiny curve near the smart connector. It didn't bother me at all as I thought it was designed due to even out the pressure when using an apple pencil. Same day I put a Targus cover which covers both the back and the front.

After using the iPad with an apple pencil for 3 days, I had to leave town for 4 days. The iPad was in the case and was placed on a flat table. I come back and see that there is a noticeable bend and the chasis has aberrations on the smart cover. Now, my house was locked and no one was present at my place for the 4 days. I really can't explain how the curve turned to a bend - I acknowledge that it sounds ridiculous

Today I go to an Apple authorized support center (one among many) in Bengaluru, India - Apple doesn't have a direct support presence in India, the support is handled by numerous third party companies. After explaining the conundrum to them they simplified it down to 'Physical Damage'. They acknowledged that Apple would replace your iPad in a jiffy outside of India, but in India it doesn't work like that. I have three options

  1. Drop your iPad at the support center while the support center people check with Apple and revert within 3 days. I was told not to get my hopes high as they would have to treat it as accidental physical damage by the consumer
  2. Get your iPad swapped by an Apple store outside of India (UK, EU, USA etc..,). This option is ridiculous
  3. If option 1 turns out to be negative try your luck in a different support center owned by a different company.

I have gone with option 1 as of now and I am waiting for the revert. It's disappointing because the iPad Pro costs so much.

Typical of India.

It could be a battery problem where the battery swells up inside.

I think you need to take it to the support centre if only because it is 'official', but I don't understand why the normal Apple guarantee to replace or refund within the first 14 days is not being honoured.

Did you take the machine mack to the store you bought it from?

I bought it online from a reputed website. I have no option of returning it directly to them. The only option is to go to 'Apple Authorized Service Centers'. The service centers in India are not managed by Apple directly. Apple just gives them operating instructions booklet.

I wasn't aware of Apple's replace or refund within 14 days policy. I will go to service center tomorrow and make my case

I do know about India and the situation with stores selling Apple products.   Which country was the on-line supplier operating from?

A reputed website ???   And they have no facilities to accept returns ???

It is flipkart.com and they operate out of India. They don't accept returns on Electronics

Yes, I know of flipcart.   Not accepting returns of electronics would be a warning to me not to buy.   But unfortunately you have.

Unless you live within easy distance of the authorised centre you could try phoning the support people at their Bengaluru office.

As a lsast resort I would write (no email address) to Apple's head office in Cupertino.   Address it to the International Division.

Tell them, partly using a diary format, what has happened to you and ask their guidance.
