Apple WatchOS 4.0 mirror redundant

Hello All! I have a 7 Plus (iOS 11) and Series 2 (watchOS 4). Since the update to the newest watchOS the watch will always display whatever media I am playing on my phone. This was never the case prior to the update. I'm connected to a BT speaker at work, BT headphones at the gym, and to my vehicle's stereo during my commute. This makes the watch pretty useless as it will not display the watch face but instead a full screen command UI for media playback. I disabled mirroring in the DnD mode via the Watch App but nothing is working. If this is a new "feature" for the watch then I will be very disappointed. Any help would be appreciated.

Follow these steps to disable the feature:

• On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wake Screen > turn off Auto-Launch Audio Apps.
