How can i backup my ipod music library??

Im using a ipod touch5 & im using a loptop windows7 for my itunes, my problem is i mess up my itunes library in my loptop,, many song are missing, maybe i accidentally delete those music files. And now i cant add songs coz it might mess up the music library in my ipod, im afraid to sync it.. Plz tell me what should i do to safely backup my ipod..
