macOS Sierra, improved speed?

I have Mac Mini late 2012 (16GB) running El Capitan and when I initially upgraded to macOS Sierra, it was horribly slow and I reverted back to El Capitan. I'm wondering a year or later have the upgrades to macOS Sierra, improved its lack of speed and beach balling? It takes considerable time and effort for trial and error experiments. Can anyone tell me what feature sets macOS Sierra offers that are worth the benefits of another upgrade effort.

That was a problem with your El Capitan system that you upgraded, not Sierra.

Kappy is correct. Your speed "issue" was no doubt running software that was not Sierra compatible. If anything Sierra is slightly faster on my Macs.

However, it's a moot point now that High Sierra will be released in two days.
