Sierra upgrade: USB drive not recognized

Just upgraded to the Sierra OS.  I have a USB drive that I usually leave in the USB port and under previous versions of OSx the drive would be recognized as soon as I booted the MacBook.  However, under Sierra, I need to take the drive out and put it back in before it is recognized.

 

Is this an issue with the upgrade or is there a setting I need to review?

Allen, thanks for the suggestion, however, the USB drive is still not recognized on boot.  I continue to have to remove it, then reinsert it for it to be recognized.

If the SMC reset didn't solve the issue it may help to reinstall the MacOS Sierra update using recovery mode.  It would be a good idea to back up your Mac before any other steps.  This article will guide you through that process:

I have successfully reset SMC on my mac. And also update the mac to the latest 10.12.5, but i am unable to access my protable hard disk. Perviously I was able to access it, but now i am not to access it. Portable is working on other mac mini. Strange the thing is that pen drive is working on mac air.

 

Only the portable is not detecting only on mac air. Today is my second day for my mac air. I feels disappointing to this kind of issue.

 

Please suggest something.
