brand new Macbook Pro wont install OS

My brand new MacBook Pro is turning into a major disappointment. It arrived 2 weeks ago but I've spent the time since then working 14+ hours per day with no time to try it out. So I finally sit down to use it today, after using Time Machine to set up everything from my previous iMac. I was annoyed to find it change my user name by adding a 1 to the end of it, effectively ruining all paths for documents. I changed the username path back to what it was before in system preferences by deleting the 1. After doing this all my previous files and settings are just GONE. The space is used up on the disc but they're missing. So now I'm really frustrated at this point and just decide to start over. I erase the contents of the disc (after restarting in recovery mode) and then go to reinstall the OS.

It will NOT install. Its been sitting here saying "6 minutes remaining" with no change for hours. I'm furious. I've never had such a terrible time trying to start a brand new computer from Apple. There is nothing wrong with the internet connection.

I live 4 hours from an Apple Store and I'm outside of my two-week window to return this piece of junk in the mail. Is there anything I can do? I don't think I've ever been so fed up with an Apple product before and disgusted at the amount of money I just paid for this thing.
