After ios11, Siri will no longer reply when lea...

Before iOS11, Siri would reply to me on my iPad when my leather Apple cover was closed.  Worked beautifully.  After installing iOS11, Siri works beautifully EXCEPT when the leather cover is closed.  I reset all my Siri preferences just to be safe.  Shutdown.  Restarted.  Hard restarted.  I made sure the 'allow Siri when locked' was selected.  Nothing.  Siri works perfectly except when the leather cover is closed.  Nothing else has changed.  Same iPad.  Same Apple leather cover.  Same everything except new iOS11.  Any ideas?  Thank you.
