Shortcut Keys do not work (Volume, Brightness e...

Hey,

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion (really great so far) but all of a sudden the shortcut keys for the Brightness, Keyboard Backlight Brightness, Volume and Eject have stopped working, which is weird as the iTunes Playback control shortcut, the Exposé and Mission Control Shortcuts do.

Please could someone help me here?

Cheers

Leon

Do a Shut Down and Restart. I bet that will fix your issues.

Hold down the "fn" key when hitting those other function keys.

Nope, that just turns them into the normal funtion keys

Nope it sounds like they are normal funtion keys now. And holding down the fn key will make them do the shortcuts printed on them, Screen/keyboard brightness and the like.

If that is not the case then you have other problems with your keyboard and or computer in general.

Could be software or hardware problems.

Well I could use the default shortcut keys about three hours a go withou using the fn key but now the only way to change the brightness or the volume is through system prefs.

I can not believe I didn't try this beforehand

Thank you very much

I'm just wondering what could've caused the problem :/

Although Apple states OS X is "The Most Advanced Operating System In the World" and that "OS X never needs to be restarted, it can Run for years with out a Reboot" the simple fact is that is a complete LIE, on both counts.

The OS gets confused, corrupted, if not restarted every now and then. It is NO different then Windows. A good Shut down, all the way (Complete power off), and power back up clears all the junk that can get clogged in memory and the HDD swap files.

So the first thing to do when seeing any problems is a shut down and restart. Works wonders on All Computers.

I'm having the same problem, and the complete restart didn't work. Am I missing something?

Hi there, I am also having similar issues with the backlight shortcut keys. Is there anything that can be done?

Another MBP with the same problem. I have rebooted several times. I reset the SCR (or SMC or whatever you call it) and still nothing. The shortcut keys just stopped wirking on me thise evening. I was using the MBP just fine and then after uninstalling LogMeIn is when I lost my shortcut functionality.

I would really like to avoid doing a reinstall but I guess if I must then I will. HDD could use a clearing out anyway. But I really would like to just get the keys working again.

I have read a lot of the post regarding this and there really don't seem to be too many answers other than "reboot" and A&I.

Is there a file that may have been corrupted by something? Is there a file or process that LogMeIn deleted that it shouldn't have deleted?

Thanks!

Same here!! I uninstalled LogMeIn and now my function keys do not work. this is insanely frustrating.

Try PRAM reset

https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

and SMC reset

https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

I have tried both of those and it hasn't resolved the issue.

same here! i uninstalled LogMeIn and now my f1 till f5 do not work.. maybe i deleted important file?? please help!

if i do PRAM and SMC reset, will i reinstall MAC?
