audio switches from monitor speakers to built

Monitor: HP Envy with beats audio speakers connected to computer with an adapter cord that's Thunderbolt on one end and HDMI on the other.

Certain websites don't run the sound of videos through monitor speakers. The sound comes out of the built-in laptop speakers instead. It's a new issue but consistently happens only with certain sites. Example: Youtube and WatchESPN video sound always comes out through the monitor speakers and videos on TennisChannel Plus always switch to the built-in speakers. Some video news stories on Yahoo also switch to built-in speakers when run.

Anyone have an idea what could be causing this and what to do make sure all sound goes through the monitor speakers?
