Windows and documents opening when keyboard use...

Hi,

So I have a few issues with my Macbook Air that started yesterday.

Firstly, when I try to log in with my password after starting the machine up, it will not respond to the keyboard. If I am persistent enought (>20 mins) it will respond eventually and I an log in. Things seem to then be ok for about 30 mins and then everything starts going a bit strange.

At some point I will be writing something and suddenly the computer starts to respond to my typing by opening folders and documents and launching applications, not actually typing. If I try and open any applications it opens applications in a new finder window. Once this happens the machine is essentially useless as I ahev no way of writing anything. From then on anything I try to open will have to opened through finder, but then I can't type anything.

Has anyone ever come across this or have any thoughts as to how I can resolve the problem? If you need any more information please let me know.

Oh and I am using Sierra (version 10.12.6) and I did and update yesterday as I thought it might have been some kind of bug but that made no difference.
