"Update Unavailable with this Apple ID"

I have a  2011 MacBook Pro running on Sierra 10.12.5 (Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3).  I was prompted to download updates and got this message when I tried to run update. Since purchasing this laptop in 2011 I have changed both my Apple ID email address and password. Is this why it doesn't recognise the ID? How do I fix it? Help!

A purchase made with an AppleID is forever attached to that AppleID. Purchases cannot be transferred from one AppleID to another. If you purchased that app with another AppleID, you would have to use that AppleID to update it.

Thanks, Barney. I'll see if I can dig out my old Apple ID and try that.

I have not changed my Apple ID and am getting this message as well. I recently upgraded to macOS Sierra 10.12.5. The update I'm trying to get is one that helps files transfer from iPhoto to Photo and believe it mentions Garage Band and another as well.

Have you previously downloaded the programs using your Apple ID?

I have the same problem.

If you don't have the credentials for the old AppleID that you used to purchase it, you are likely out of luck.

If you're sure it wasn't purchased with a different AppleID, contact App Store support. There is a link on the main page of the App Store.

Just need to know what I can do to get the updates to work again please.

SO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS THAT IF WE CHANGE ANY INFORMATION ON OUR APPLE ID, WHICH IS ALLOWED - WE CAN NO LONGER UPDATE OUR MAC SOFTWARE. Is this a valid assumption? All I want to do is update the software on the mac I PAID for and now I can't. If this is true, what do I do, change all my ID information back to the old information?

Did you change the information on your Apple ID or create a new Apple ID?

Apple ID email address or password - What to do after you change

No, not at all. If you create a new AppleID, then the purchases are not transferrable.
If you just change the email address associated with your AppleID ( or any other information related to the AppleID), then it is still the same AppleID.

Then I am confused since I only changed my email address. Why is this happening? I bought the apple computer from an apple store and I have an apple ID. How come I can't update my computer now? I'm confused! (obviously)...

As I already stated in my first reply, if you are using the same AppleID you used to purchase the items, contact App Store support. Us users, just like you, cannot fix your account.

Okay, first time i've come onto this forum. Sorry if you feel I've asked you to fix my problem. I'll contact App Store Support.

Same issue here.   After several tries I was still getting the "Update Unavailable with this Apple ID" error message.

MacBook Pro 15", Early 2011, 2.3GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, OS X El Capitan 10.11.6.

I was able to solve this issue by installing each update individually instead of using the "update all" button.  Don't know if this will work for everyone, but it's certainly worth a shot.

It was a PITA and I shouldn't have had to update this way (are you listening, Apple?), but it worked, and I avoided a phone call for support.

Interestingly I was only prompted for my Apple ID for 2 of the 5 updates when done individually.  And it took.
