Hello everyone,

This is for your help . I have had an experience with that all and i went to apple store near me and they told me that i need to change my Hard disk because it was damaged due to a small hit.( happened when my phone accidentally fall on the Mac and unfortunately it fall above the place where the HHD located and damaged it) so i just bought a new HHD and replaced it but now i need to replace the RAM also as it's old to catch up with the new fast HHD. Hope this will help someone who have the same issue.

Thanks to you guys for the help you offered, i felt that i am not alone in this world)) have a good fun you all..

Hi,

It's possible there is an issue with your hard drive or the directory structure on it. Open Utilities > Disk Utility > select your HD on the left (the first item on the list) > make sure S.M.A.R.T. status says “Verified” (if it doesn’t it means there is a hardware issue with the HD, or an impending one) > click on the second item on the list (which should be Macintosh HD or the name you named your internal HD) > click on “First Aid” > (depending on your OS, you may have to click on Repair Disk or Verify Disk) > click on “Run” > allow it to finish running > click on “Show Details” > look at the last few lines and see if it says something like "Appears to be OK" and/or “Operation successful;” if so, click on “Done,” go to the Disk Utility menu and select “Quit Disk Utility.”

If it says “Cannot be repaired” or something like it anytime during the run, run it a few more times to see if Disk Utility can repair it. If not, click on “Done,” go to the Disk Utility menu, select “Quit Disk Utility.”

Lack of RAM is one reason your Mac is running slow. Upgrade to at least 8GBs, 16GBs would be better. Buy RAM at either Crucial or Macsales/OWC.

You're running Mountain Lion/10.8.5. Upgrade to at least El Capitan/10.11.6.

Hi, thanks for the clue >>
i did literally as you said step by step
here is what was the results
- HD disk S.M.A.R.T shows verified.

-macintosh HD first aid was " the volume apple macintosh HD appears to be ok .

but still the mac get frozen when i launch the Sierra installation from the Appstore.

note that this mac was running os sierra before this happen !
i appreciate your answer

hello, please tell me how to know that my RAM need change ? some tests ? etrecheck shows that RAM is good !

1. Sierra should run correctly with 4GB of Ram, but when more apps are running, 4GB of Ram is not enough (the same for ML) replace the two 2GB modules with two 4GB or two 8GB modules. Make sure that the specs are correct. See the websites Eric Root offered. A cheap upgrade!.

2.

OS X Install ESD (disk1s2 - HFS+) /Volumes/OS X Install ESD : 5.49 GB (513 MB free)

Physical disk: (null) 5.49 GB (513 MB free)

This worries me because it is not correct.

Do following (supposing you run Mountain Lion now):

restart while holding the CMD+R keys, it starts slow, when open choose "Reinstall OSX" it will do what it says (needs a good internet connection, and will take some time):

ML is installed again, it leaves you user data alone.

When ready start normally and open Terminal, and type

fsck -y

in it.

this corrects all issues in the filesystem.

When finished (give it some time), quit Terminal.

Then run a new etrecheck list and post it here.

Do not try to update to Sierra before we have solved this.

I'm not sure what's going on, but both etrecheck reports show you running Mountain Lion....

Yes, issue still there: the upgrade does not work because the Sierra installer does not see your disk (just the amount of the installer file itself). Your whole disk is not available for Mountain Lion also. Can you exactly describe what happens when you start up (more than "frozen"), any messages? how far do you come?

Please make a copy on an external of the Installer file that is in the Applications folder, then delete it from the Applications folder and empty the Trash bin.

Then restart and run etrecheck again after answering with a better description as I asked above.

Lrx

yeah,

because at the moment i am running the ML !  i was forced to install ML through my recovery or time machine both same,, this happens when i start update to mac os sierra and when the line of installation going after around 5 minutes it goes freeze and last forever ~_~
thank you

It may just only be a compromised Sierra installer.

Assuming you did as I asked (removing the Sierra installer) can you run etrecheck again in ML?

yes i am going to explain everything happened here !

my macbook pro was running Sierra but suddenly went slowly responding for around two days and i switched it off when i restarted the device the prohibited logo appears, after that i started the recovery and utility disk to fix the problem, i started reinstallation of mac os Sierra and it does start the process and i choose the Disk where to install and start the installation but then after around five minutes and the it stops showing this massage>       "( MacOS could not be installed on your computer)"

" an error occurred installing macOS. To use apple Diagnostics to check your mac hardware, shut down, press the power button, and immediately hold the "D" key until diagnostic begins. quit the installer ti restart your computer and try again."

this is the massage which showed their ! i did all this instructions and i even did erase to all disks and made a verify and repair to all disks and also deleted all partitions and did it again but still not working   and after the whole thing i did recovery through the device origin base system and it run the ML which i am running on this mac now but you know it's an old Version and i can't connect my iPhone due to the old ver.itunes and a lot of apps and tools can't be updated and you see i need update to macOS Sierra but it can't be done >>

Lexiepex Thank you for the help !

i will do the steps you said above and try to do etrecheck again )

Have you tried booting ML, going to the App Store > Purchased and downloading from there? Or click on Updates > the Install button on the big Sierra screen?

hello Lexiepex,

here is the etrecheck after removing the installation file of the macOS Sierra
