Internet browsers

I know Safari is the main web  browser for iMac.  I am trying to find out if it is possible to download either Chrome or Firefox from the app store so that I can fill out something online.  I tried using the Google Chrome that I have but it is not working.  The site does not support Safari..

You can download Firefox directly from the developer:

I just tried that but got an error message saying since it was not downloaded from the app store it will not open. 

What is your setting in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Allow apps downloaded from?

Sorry, I looked in the Apple on the top left of my screen and also on Safari and I see nothing about allowing apps being downloaded from. 

Because you downloaded an application from outside of the App Store, you will have to initially right-click on Firefox, and choose Open. You will see a Gatekeeper verification progress bar, and eventually Firefox will open. This is a onetime process, and then subsequently, you can launch Firefox normally.

To update Firefox, click on the Firefox menu : About Firefox. It will either inform that it is current, or you will see an update button that you can click on to download, apply, and restart Firefox.

You check System Preferences > Security & Privacy. Or, you can also override the settings manually by using Control click on the Firefox installer.
