want to use MacBook Pro offline for navigation ...

hi,

have a MacBook Pro 15" built 2016.

i want to use it for navigation purpose on sea.

as I don't have wifi on board, I can't get a gps signal for my navigation software.

i have 2 questions:

- would a connection to my iPhone used as hotspot work?

- whilst the hotspot solution would only work as long as the iPhone has cellular connection, further out at sea I guess I need to use a GPS mouse? are there any restrictions or recommendations? usb or bluetooth?

thanks alot

Having your MacBook Pro tethered to your iPhone should give your Mac the location data it needs so long as your iPhone has a cell signal for data. To get the same functionality further out to sea, you'll need some form of satellite internet connectivity, which I can't advise you on.

I'm not sure what you mean my a GPS mouse. If you're talking about a computer mouse, GPS is not a protocol for connecting computer peripherals, and there should be no problem connecting your mouse to your laptop when at sea, unless one of the devices has succumbed to salt corrosion.
