mac not updating to 10.12

I recently downloaded the the update for 10.1.2, When u go into my updates, it shows as downloaded. but my mac is still showing 10.11.6.  As a result I am unable t download the Xcode app which requires the 10.1.2.  Anyone know why my mac isn't showing the updated version?
