Torn between forced upgrade of MBP

I've been using my Early 2011 MacBook Pro with the 2.2GHz i7 processor for the last 4 years and absolutely love it. I upgraded the hard drive to a 1TB Samsung Evo and the ram to 16GB maybe three months ago and it just made it even better. The size and weight never even bothered in the slightest bit.

This past Tuesday as I was just killing time on youtube I got the dreaded white screen of death. After contacting Apple and getting told its vintage and definitely a hardware issue we went to the store to look at new MBP's.

I bought. 2017 15" MacBook Pro Space Grey with the 2.9 Processor and 512GB's of storage and the touch bar.

Here's the thing....I don't love it like I did my "Vintage" one. I do like the better display but I ABSOLUTELY HATE the new keyboard. This rant/question has taken me way too long to type. I could be doing better with a piece of paper and pencil.

My question is...is there a happy medium between the newer processing power and display and the older body with the older style keys and ports? I do use my SD card from camera and drone and don't really want to have to buy a dongle and carry it everywhere as well.

There is one 15-in model that still has the old ports and older style keyboard available. It is Integrated graphics only. (introduced in 2012).

IF and only if you bought direct from Apple (not a reseller who sets their own policies) you have only 14 days from receipt for "no questions asked" return or swap.

Unless you are doing Processor-intensive work, the change in Processing power is no big deal.

-OR- you could use an external Bluetooth keyboard, or with proper adapters, a USB keyboard.

Introduced in 2015 and still being produced, new, today: https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MJLQ2LL/A&step=config#

You are quite right. I was working from memory, and it looks like my memory is faulty.

That model was introduced in 2015, just as you say. I stand corrected.

Thank you guys for the responses. Is here any real difference between the 2015 and mid 2014’s? I’ve found a great deal on a used 2014.

I just don’t want the same overheating/logic board issue that got me here in the first place
