I need help updating my macbook pro from 10.8.5...

I am trying to update my 10.8.5 macbook pro to sierra. I have tried many of the trouble shooting things seen online (sign in/out of app store, reset utilities, make sure all firewalls are off, etc). I am still not able to download. It says to look at the purchase page, which it never shows up on....please help, I want to pull my hair out over this.
