Volume issue with MacBook Pro 2016 and LG Ultra...

When my MacBook Pro 2016 is connected to the LG UltraFine 4k monitor, the volume controls seem incorrectly calibrated.

By this I mean the difference between the first 2 steps on the volume are wildly different and the volume is far too loud/distorted above the second step.

I don't have this issue when disconnected and using the built-in speakers.

This behaviour is consistent on 2 different MacBook and UltraFine monitors.

I'm also having this problem under Windows 10 in Boot Camp. The audio seems to get far too loud when I'm booted in Windows. For the most part it works as it should under Sierra. I have a late 2016 MacBook Pro 15" and an LG Ultrafine 4k monitor. Are you able to control the brightness of the Ultrafine 4k monitor under Windows in Boot Camp because I am not able to.

Sorry, I don't use currently Boot Camp on this MacBook.

I've since contacted both LG and Apple directly regarding this issue. LG UK support were unable to assist me as they do not have any this model in the UK support team, Apple have advised me to bring in the MacBook for a Genius appointment so I'll see what happens with that.

Same problem here. The speakers jump up to 30% volume within the first 5% of the volume up key on my MacBook keyboard. A temporary solution I've been using is to hold Option and Shift while adjusting the volume to reach increments in between steps. I hope a software update is pushed to the display for this issue; it's very annoying.

Same here. VERY annoying. Even at the smallest incremental volume point, the sound is loud. Can it be possible that these expensive monitors have no low volume setting??

I am having the same issue with 2016 MacBook Pro and LG 27 inch 5k monitor.  Has anyone got a fix?  Volume is way too loud at the low levels.

Exactly the same issue here. I just bought two LG Ultrafine 5K monitors and would be far happier with them than I expected - if there weren't that annoying volume control issue. I reached out to LG Support in Germany first – answer: "Not our fault. Must be your Mac or software." So reached out to Apple Support in Germany – answer: "Reach out to LG again." Good to know the same problem occurs on Windows as well, so it's definitely LG hardware/software related problem! Also good to know that both the 4K and 5K models are affected. I'm thinking about returning my monitors since I still have that option, but would love to keep them if I just knew SOMEONE (whether it's Apple or Liebe Grüße, Philipp or Appple – I don't care) were working on a fix. Does anyone expect this behavior that be fixed with a software/firmware upgrade? Is there anything else we can do?

It appears this has been fixed in Sierra 10.12.4

Actually it seems to be operating normally on some sites (YouTube) and not on others (Facebook).  Odd.  I retract my previous statement.

Worse: No difference at all for me with Sierra 10.12.4 – whether I try YouTube or Facebook, on Safari or Chrome. Same with iTunes. So frustrating.

Within iTunes it appears to function much better with the final build of 10.12.4. I've also tried YouTube successfully. FaceBook however is the same as previously. While not the same symptoms or ability to replicate what you have I can at least concur that it's not fully resolved.

Same issue on a MBP 15". Got delivery of my LG 5k on the day Apple announced they would be releasing a new monitor.

I mean, I get it that there are bugs, I can even forgive this one, but it seems like a software update would easily fix this one. It's odd this is still around.

Same problem with a newly bought LG 27 inch 5K connected to MacBookPro 15inch 2005.

The sound level is not progressive.  It jumps from just audible to too high.

Please, Apple, it's really an annoying defect!

When changing the sound level via the Settings app, sound option, the sound is progressive.

Problem only occurs when using the keyboard shortcut!
