17" iMac(Intel) No audio devices found

I have an old 17" white iMac that I've been tinkering with.  Everything seems good except there is no sound.  No start up chime either.  For a little backstory...the machine didn't have a hard rive when I got it so I installed one and loaded snow leopard.  In the process I decided to replace the 1.83ghz core duo with a 2.16ghz core 2 duo I had laying around from another Mac.  Everything else works flawlessly on the machine except the sound. It'll work with a USB device but not from the internal analog components.

So here are the steps I've taken:

Multiple Restarts, SMC resets, PRAM resets

Tried through the Midi utility, nothing

Have run both AHT and ASD with no audio related issues

4 different sets of speakers

Wiped the hdd and re-installed snow leopard twice

Did diagnostics on the hdd with drive genius and the drive checks out

Replaced PRAM battery

Not sure where else to go from here

Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Any help would be very much appreciated.  Thanks!
