Use iMac as a monitor for something else

In the process of relocating my iMac and it is going to end up next to a monitor I use for work purposes.

This is just a monitor attached by the normal method from a work modem/hub.

Is there anyway I can turn the iMac into a monitor from the work modem/hub ?

Just seems daft having two screens not to each other.

An supported iMac can be used as a monitor for another Mac via Target Display Mode.

There is also software that will allow you to mirror or extend a display from one computer (Mac and PCs) to an iMac through the network, but this can be slow, and have issues depending on the network.
