Ancient AirPrint Printer not working with 2017 Air

I have a Photosmart AirPrint printer that I got with my iPad 2 in 2011 and it has always connected to every device wirelessly but it doesn't pick up on my Air. Only gives the option to insert IP address. Printer also shuts off my itself and needs to be turned back on constantly. Hmmm?
