Distorted FaceTime Audio

Hi all,

 

Have a brand new iPad Pro 12.9

 

My first Ipad.

 

I tried my first facetimes this morning, both to same (only) contact. When they answered by phone the sound i heard was fine, good quality. But when they answered via ipad the sound was distorted. It sounded very 'sharp' and was impossible to understand.

 

I may be paranoid but if this is a machine fault I will want to return for refund.

 

So...how can I tell if this was a fault in my ipad or was just a connection issue?
