Why do my individual song purchases keep being ...

When there is an update of iTunes, suddenly the last 10 or 20 songs I purchased (all from iTunes) are spirited off my Windows computer and out of availability until I call iTunes and they do something on their end then make me re-download them again, in which case, if any copy shows up at all, I end up with doubles.

Once they are missing from Windows, they behave on my iPod as though I never purchased them.

What this means, specifically, is that the downloaded music, within the iTunes folder on my computer, most of which is untouched and always there, the last handful or two of songs are literally missing from my iTunes folder. Their folders are simply wiped out, gone, as though they had never been there before.

This happens repeatedly.

Over and over and over and over for the last 10-20 song purchases and always and only on updates.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Is it because Apple is so messed up it can't figure out what we've bought (something I find highly unlikely, but maybe there is something I'm missing)? Or is it because it resents Windows users? (i.e. has not yet made it work well for Windows users, since they are not a priority?) Since neither of these scenarios seems likely, I figure there must be a glitch somewhere.

I'm open to any ideas the community might have come up with. If you've experienced this, please tell me if you've found a solution. Thank you.
