itunes unknown error 13010

I like to put my huge CD collection (500+) on itunes, using an external disk for the itunes library. On and off I get the error 13010 and the library couldn't be saved respectively when starting itunes.

At the same time, I can't restore from backup due to case sensitivity (back up drive is case sensitive, macbook pro harddisk is not.

So I want to make sure first that I can restore from back up, then make sure itunes is working properly and then get to importing from CDs again as it is time consuming.

Any good advice?
