Message notification sync issue between iPhone ...

Hi All

I have recently updated my Apple Watch to 2.1 and have noticed the notifications for message between iPhone (running iOS 9.2) and the watch (also my iPad!) are no longer in sync.

Prior to the update, when I receive a message I will be notified on all my devices, specifically the Watch and the iPhone for the purpose of this post.  When I have read the message on the phone, the notification on my Watch will dismiss itself automatically and vice versa.  This is no longer the case and I have to manually dismiss the notifications.

Is anyone having the same issue?  I am not sure if this is due to the iOS update or the WatchOS update as I did them at the same time.

It is not a huge issue but rather an annoying one!

Thanks.

Restarting the devices did not work, however unpairing and then pairing them again have solved the issue.

Hi Kenny

How notifications behave depends on the status of your devices. In order to bring notifications to your attention as soon as possible:

- If your iPhone is unlocked, you will receive notifications on your iPhone instead of on your watch.

- If your iPhone is locked or asleep and your watch is unlocked and on your wrist, you will receive notifications on your watch.

- If your watch is locked or has Do Not Disturb enabled, notifications will go to your iPhone.

About notifications on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

You may find that if you turn off Wrist Detection (on your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection) it will cause all notification alerts to be delivered to both devices. However, you will not then be able to benefit from features including Apple Pay and a single unlock after placing the watch on your wrist.

If you would like Apple to consider adding an option for notification alerts to be delivered to both devices irrespective of other settings, you can suggest it here:

Hi Jonathan

Thanks for your reply although it does not explain or solve the issue I have.

The main issue is not where the messages are being delivered, as I get notification mirror to my watch.  The message notifications go to both my watch (when I am wearing it) and to my locked iPhone.  When I have read the message on my phone, the notification on the watch remains there until I read the message again on the watch or manually dismiss it.  My experience prior WatchOS 2.1 and/or iOS 9.2 was that once I have read the message on either device, the notification on all devices will be dismissed automatically.

The result of this annoying is that, I accumulate old message notifications on my watch or my phone throughout the day.

Kenny

It may help to restart both your iPhone and your watch. Turn both devices off together first, then restart your iPhone before restarting your watch:

- To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off;

- To turn it on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Restarting the devices did not work, however unpairing and then pairing them again have solved the issue.

I don't receive any notification on my watch and no sound

Well apple told me I should get my watch repair , do you have any suggestion

Have you tried to unpair your apple watch and phone and pair them back, maybe their was an issue during pairing that caused this

I have exactly the same issue. It started after updating my phone to iOS 11. Thought it would be solved with watchO

Thought it would be solved with watchOS. Have unpaired and repaired and then it worked for a few hours, then back to almost no notifications.
