How can I empty the trash on my iMac when all t...

I have tried all the suggestions after searching in these forums, but nothing seems to work.  So I will post a screen shot of my trash can.  Seems almost all of the files are old system files.  All of these files have my admin privilege on them.  I even tried unlocking them and holding down various keys (Option, Command, etc) during emptying to no avail.

Try this:

Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on solving Trash issues. You can also try using Trash It! 5.1 to fix the problem. Or you can try this:

Open the Terminal in the Utilities' folder and paste the following at the prompt:

    sudo rm -Rf ~/.Trash

Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not echo to the screen. Press RETURN again.

The terminal trick did not work, neither did Trash It! 5.1.  But I will get back to the link you so kindly gave me later today.

Trash It! 5.1  did work almost all the time.   However I cannot figure out how to use it on something that is already in the trash. Plus the items in the trash were from an old system and my iMac will not delete them. My iMac is up to date also.
