Firmware

Ok so basically I bought a laptop of gumtree a few years ago (MacBook Pro 13" 2009) and have just changed the hard disk, it is now asking me for a firmware password in order to use the new disk, I can't get hold of the seller and obvioustly can't go to apple as it would be under there name e.c.t, does any one know if maybe replacing the logic board would work ? It's kind of old so may benefit from doing so anyway, I have tried the whole RAM removal and restart thing but apparently that only works on 2008 and older, any suggestions ???

If you can't get relief from the seller, the only know recourse it to go to Apple with whatever proof-of-purchase you can cobble together and throw yourself at their mercy.

 

If and only if you can convince them the unit is not stolen, they can remove the firmware password.

so changing logic board would not work ? As I have little proof of the whole transaction as it was so long ago

Suppose you buy a logic board that also has firmware password. You are back to the same place.

I'd get a refurbed one from a shop and have them fit it, I just don't really wanna ask a shop as the first thing they'd think was that I was a thief or something
