Disks not ejecting properly in Sierra

Soooo, this is still happening. I had found a thread that suggested turning off power-nap. That seemed to work, until just now. I verified that it is still turned off.

Basically, to recap, when the computer goes to sleep, sometimes, it wakes to the disk(s) not properly ejected messages. When this happens, it is always at least my Time Machine disk, but other times, it can be two others in addition. The commonality is that all three drives (USB-3) are connected to the same USB-3 powered multi, which is then connected directly to the computer. The reasons why I'm assuming it isn't the buss are:

• it doesn't always happen
• not all discs are always effected

Thanks in advance for any suggestions (beyond disabling sleep...)
