Sierra 10.12.6 won't open subfolders

I recently upgraded to 10.12.16 from an earlier OS.  Under that earlier OS I had numerous folders with TIFF/.jpg files inside them and had no trouble opening those folders sub-folders to view their content (I'm a photographer - been using PhotoShop for years opening, editing, closing, re-opening, editing and saving files and folders for years).

Now, after upgrading to Sierra 10.12.6, I'm finding that when I try to open some sub-folders (where I KNOW I have valid files stored) Sierra shows that the sub-folders are empty with only 8k of content.

Sometimes, if I repeatedly open/close/reopen a subfolder, Sierra WILL show enclosed content.

If I try to open a sub-folder and Sierra shows no files in it, if I close THAT particular folder, go open another folder and IT'S sub-folder, then close THAT folder and go back to the original folder/sub-folder and try to re-open it, about 50% of the time Sierra WILL show content in the sub-folder.

Anyone have any ideas?

Try re-indexing Spotlight.

Spotlight – Re-index

Will give this a try.  Just out of curiosity, any rough idea how long Spotlight will take to re-index a 1TB hard drive with 839 GB still available?

Less than 15 mins I would say.
