Listening to Podcasts on the Watch

I am thinking of geting the Series 3 smartwatch with cellular capability. I am wondering about the watch’s ability to play podcasts since I am a big podcast fan. I have 2 questions in this regard.

  1. I know that there is an Overcast podcast app for the watch. Does this behave in the same way that the Overcast app works on my iPhone?
  3. Are the podcasts on the watch loaded into the memory or do they stream via the LTE connection? The cellular data limits here (Yukon Territory) are quite small and costly so I couldn’t afford to listen to podcasts on the watch if they come in via cellular.

Apple Watch does not currently support podcasts via the built-in apps and Apple has not announced any changes to this for watchOS 4 (which is due for release tomorrow, 19 September).

 

In respect of Overcast's features under current and/or future versions of watchOS, I suggest that you consult the developer's app description and support resources and, if necessary, contact the developer:
