No Available Windows

New MacBook Pro out of the box.  When I try to run any software, I get a message saying "No Available Windows" and I can't run anything.  Sometimes a restart fixes it.  Any ideas?

You might want to update to Sierra 10.12.4 if you haven't already. if you have…

Please install and paste the results

You say it's new out of the box but it has an old version of the OS? I would try updating as dialabrain has suggested. If that doesn't work, take it back and exchange it. You should not be having these problems on a Mac let alone brand new from the store. You may have a damaged copy or having memory issues.

Don't waste your time. Put it back in the box and return it for a full cash refund. Buy another one.

Thanks to all.  Updating to 10.12.4 didn't fix it, so back to the store I go.

I'm sure its replacement will be fine.

Unfortunately I won't know until Monday.  Our local Mac store is very busy.  (My user is NOT happy.  I don't blame her.)

Nor do I. These things happen though. Apple will make it right.

Under the circumstances it would be reasonable to ask for complimentary one-on-one session to assist with setting up the new Mac, at a time convenient for you or its user.

I think I know what the problem is! This was happening to me just a few moments ago - computer fresh out of the box - but the strange (and super irritating) thing was that my boyfriend could open every application with out any problem. You can imagine my frustration! After some research and no answers my boyfriend for the fun off it took my finger and "controlled it" .... it worked! So turns out I was just pushing too hard.. so try a very gentle touch, hope it will work for those who stumble in here in search for answers.

Thank you.! After 60 minutes on Apple Care and being bumped up to a senior tech, Isaw the last entry here and ...that was it! Apple Care really should know this....

A new macbook shouldn't have ANY issues out of the box.  and i'm sure if the apple tech couldn't solve the issue on a new computer you'd be steered to exchange at the Apple Store.

You should exchange it and expect no such issues from the new.  apple doesn't release broken computers.

(I have one piece of software (a game download) that only occasionally displays the message only when it switches between full screen and non when the software is not expecting to do so.  No other software displays the message.)

This is not a problem Apple or Apple Communities can help you with.  I suggest restoring your whole system from safe mode and securing the computer out of reach.

I should have mentioned the simpler and more important things to check first:

If you press F3 (shortcut for Mission Control), on an empty desktop (any working iMac), it will say "no windows available".  (mission control has no windows to show (none to choose and slid) and says this in the middle of the desktop, but it does show the top bar of mission control for other desktops)

Therefore make sure your F3 key isn't stuck, MORESO that your keyboard is fully charged (plugged in - or try some usb spare have you one).  Check settings for mission control (though they should be perfect if it's new).

I was having the same problem, not only on my laptop but my boyfriends as well. I finally realized its because I was pressing too hard trying to click on the icons. The computer thinks you are doing 3D Touch and the apps don't offer any 3D Touch windows! hope this helps

You have to turn off force click , Go to system preferences > trackpad >uncheck force click
