Where has my disk space gone? Lost 1,3 TB

I have an iMac 27 inch late 2013, HD 3 TB. OXS X Yosemite 10.10.5. Something is eating my harddisk: I have only a few GB left when I check finder Macintosh HD. When I check (via finder) the individual folders of the harddisk, I get the following: Applications 12.9 GB; iTunes media: 12 KB; Library: 5.8 GB, Quarantine: 525 KB; System: 7 GB; User information: 4 KB, Users: 1.3 TB. Total: around 1.3 TB, which seems ok and realistic to me. So, where and what are the remaining 1.7 TB? About this Mac indicates in the storage tab 1.9 TB as "others". What is this others? I have also McAfee installed: nothing in the quarantine folder.

Please help to solve this mystery. Much appreciated!
