itunes installation failing

i'm trying to install itunes on my laptop. it allows me to download but as soon as i click to install it comes up with the message: 

'the installer encountered errors before itunes could be configured. errors occurred during installation. your system has not been modified' 

so i checked my updates on my computer and it's all up to date. i don't know what else i can do 

The general troubleshooting advice when iTunes fails to install properly (and reinstalling or repairing it does not work) is to remove not only iTunes but all related components, reboot, remove the target installation folders and reinstall.

That particular error usually indicates a problem removing the old version of Apple Software Update. Try repairing that from the Programs & Features control panel, then try installing iTunes once more, ideally right clicking on the setup file and using Run as administrator. See the user tip mentioned above if you have any further difficulty.
