Itunes wont open after macOS Sierra Update 12/9...

I ran updates yesterday and now itunes wont open. When selected in the doc, the icon just bounces but does not open the application

I also cannot select the app from finder or add music files from finder.

Attempting to send itunes to trash prompts an error message saying cannot delete as itunes is required by masOS.

Can anyone assist?

UPDATE

For those of you having this same issue,

The resolution was to uninstall and reinstall my operating system completely.

As my my Mac is an older model, apparently the updates don't carry everything across on the older machines.

I hope this is offers help for those in the same boat
