Apple Watch Series 2 battery stuck at 100% &...
Hi everyone,
Recently, I have the following problems after I updated my Apple Watch Series2 to a latest watchOS, 3.2.3
1) The battery always show 100% even I have been using it for 2-5 hours I am very sure on thi
2) It started to shut down by itself very often even the battery was there. Again I am very sure the battery wasn't running low or in the power reserve mode
3) From problem (1)&(2), after it shut down I couldn't turn on or restart by pushing 2 buttons on the side (sometimes it showed red battery sign with charging cable). Inorder to turn it back on I had to put it back to the charger and restart it by pressing 2 buttons on the side. After the watch was on, I checked the battery level and it said 100%!!!!!!
I have no idea whether my problem (1) and (2) are realating to eachother or not. My watch behavior is weird with this latest watchOS. Never happen with the previous watchOS before.
Please feel free to comment.
Hi
Battery life varies depending on use and other factors. Examples are detailed here:
Apple's tips for maximising battery life on Apple Watch are detailed here:
It may help to follow these steps, which have previously resolved battery life issues for other users, including those experienced after installing software updates, when their usage has not changed:
- Restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch, turning both off together and then restarting your iPhone first:
- Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
- Restart your Apple Watch - Apple Support
- If the issue persists, next close all open apps on your iPhone and repeat the restart of both devices.
- If you have ever (not necessarily recently) previously used the Workout app and/or any third-party fitness or sleep tracking apps to record workouts on your watch, check on your watch to see whether there is a paused activity within any of them. If there is, end that activity from within the app on your watch (not your iPhone).
- If in doubt, remove any such third-party apps from your Apple Watch.
- Unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:
- The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch automatically when unpairing via the app.
- When setting it up again, initially choose to Restore from Backup. Most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).
- If the issue persists, consider instead unpairing and setting it up as a new watch.
- Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone - Apple Support
- Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support
- The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch automatically when unpairing via the app.
- Some users have previously experienced battery life issues in connection with using corporate profiles and/or Exchange Calendars. If you are using an Exchange Calendar, one or more of these steps may help:
- Archive your Exchange Calendar for all items before today.
- Remove / delete all old inbox messages relating to calendar invites (accept and decline notifications).
- Create a rule in your Outlook Mail account that moves all future accept and decline replies, immediately upon receipt, into a separate mail folder that does not sync with your iPhone and Apple Watch.
- Check your Exchange Calendar for errors.
- Finally, it may help to:
- Remove third-party apps from the Dock and/or from your watch and then monitor battery performance after adding them back, one at a time.
- Remove watch face complications and monitor battery performance as you add them back:
Having tried the previous steps, if the issue persists, I suggest contacting Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), making a Genius Bar reservation or visiting an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance, including - if recommended - to have your watch inspected and serviced:
Hi Jonathan UK,
Firstly thanks very much for you advises. Before posting the problems, I have tried what you posted but still couln't work. My watch kept repeating the same problems even in the middle of unpair/pair procedure the watch just randomly shut down. Now I gave up man! Hope Apple come out with new software update that fix this as I see a lot of people in the community experienced this also
You're welcome!
As the issue persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

For future reference, when asking questions here, it is best to explain at the outset all of the steps that you have already tried.
This helps to ensure that you receive constructive replies (besides being appreciated by those who may invest their time and effort in trying to help you).
Hey Jonathan,
Would love to make a Genius Bar reservation but the problem is we do not have that in Thailand!
I ordered my watch throuh AppleTH online store. But still under the 12 months warranty will try to fix it by myself for a while.
Thanks again.
PS. Even now my battery is still 100% after 8 hours of taking it off from charger! still kept turning off have to bring my charger with me!
If necessary, follow the instructions here to arrange service in Thailand:
Hey Jonathan,
Sorry for not being clear up there Yes, I have tried what you suggested and the problems still exist. The following are what I have tried:
- Restart both of my iPhone and and my Apple Watch, I tried both way watch first then iphone or vice versa. I even tried to restore my iphone6s to factory setting. Still not woking.
- Never use work out app/ third-party fitness/sleep tracking apps / because i use watch mainly for notifications when driving and looking at the time. So I am not sure about this.
- Unpair and re-pair myApple Watch, I tried with backup and non-backup. During the pairing process when it asked "do you want to download the app from iphone" I also tried both download and not download apps from iphone. I even went further tried to pair my watch with friend iphone 7. 6S, 6 and still doesn't work
- I do not use exchange or outlook mail account. I only use the apple mail app that come with the watch.
- And yes i had removed all the third party app, only the standard app from apple (when recieve the watch) and still doesn't work
Thanks again.
PS. Even now my battery is still 100% after 8 hours of taking it off from charger! still kept turning off have to bring my charger with me!
I'm losing it over this as well. After the update, only 100% battery life is shown. It also locks up on raise to wake, and when attempting to raise and wake right after that, it shows the charge cable icon. I guess I'm not alone. I will read for remedy below.
Same, although I will be honest I DO NOT have the time to play with this. I paid $$$ for this watch and now its completely unreliable... the opposite of what you want a watch, let alone an Apple product to be.
