iCloud "Low Disk Space", not syncing photos

I have a 16GB iPhone 5 that is completely jammed full of just the barebones essential apps and photos I need. I've deleted everything I possibly can. Unfortunately I'm not eligible for an upgrade to a larger phone until August. I'm hoping the iCloud Photo Library with the Optimize iPhone Storage setting can help free up some space. Here's my problem:

I enabled the iCloud Photo Library, and the Optimize iPhone Storage setting. I have the 20GB iCloud storage plan, and roughly 7GB of photos on my phone, so plenty of space. In the iCloud photo settings tab, underneath the iCloud Photo Library option, it tells me "Low Disk Space - 2536 Items to Upload". Nothing ever syncs, nothing is uploaded, my iCloud storage space still says 20.0 GB available, and my local photo storage hasn't shrunk at all. Why isn't it syncing? What am I missing?

I had the same issue But I managed to make it work.

The Low Disk Space refers to the amount if diskspace on your idevice.

Apple will not upload any of your photos or pictures unless there is more than 300mb free disk space on your device.

hope this helps

Got the same problem.

And also:

Settings >> iCloud | Storage = 18.6 Gb Available

Settings >> iCloud >> Storage | Total Storage = 0 bytes, Available = 2.6 Gb

Why ?

Same! Everything with iCloud Photo Library was working perfectly across all my devices until last night.

What has to be to be done for photos and videos to start getting automatically replaced with optimized versions on the phone?

I have a similar discrepancy:

Settings >> iCloud | Storage = 15.0 GB Available

Settings >> iCloud >> Storage | Total Storage = 0 bytes, Available = 3.0 GB

I deleted enough apps that I now have 410 mb of free space. I'm at home, connected to my wifi. My phone is plugged in if that matters (I don't think it does). Nothing is being uploaded to the iCloud Photo Library.

Thanks, This helped me

After messing around with this for over an hour yesterday and giving up, it somehow magically started uploading overnight, and was completed by the morning. I have so much more free space now, it's wonderful!

I HAVE 1 GB on my phone and it STILL won't upload the photos.

Thank you for posting. Where did you learn about the 300mb minimum for uploading photos?

I really hope Apple improves the way iCloud sync communicates to the user about what is going on and gives us some control. It is so frustrating to have no idea when the photos are going to sync. Sometimes you take a photo and want to have it available on your computer right away, but this sync tool can never promise this will happen. It really defeats the purpose.

I have this same exact problem. 439 items to upload. Nothing is changing. I deleted some apps, I have 480mb free. Every time I take a few photos it tells me I'm full. Yet I have 16GB free on my iCloud.

Has anyone found a different solution?

perfect! thanks

How do you free up the disk space?  I've been having this problem for the last few weeks.. a popup will tell me that I haven't backed up my photos in ?? days, but I have the '479 items to download'.. try to download.. goes back to the beginning.  I have plenty of storage, pay the $3.99 a month for extra iCloud storage.  I think I just have to remove some of my other apps?  It does show 153mg available storage.

I am sorry to run into such issues again and again with Apple. Still selling 16GB iPhones when digital cams come with 32GB standard; then clients buy iCloud extra storage and run in pitholes.

Why is there such a contrast in the work of that company, having some things so well thought out and some still in the past decade and taking ages to improve? (also refering to software glitches fix rate)

Does one ever listen to the customers?!

S.Jobs' work punished Nokia and PC makers for their ignorance; hope his company stays away from that mistake.
