Trying to turn off find my iPhone on old phone

Got a new iPhone and need to turn find my iPhone off on old phone to send back. When signing into account there are 6 devices that show up- 1 says iPod, so I can rule that out, but the other 5 say iPhone. One is online and 4 are offline... the old phone is on, but I can not access anything from the phone, as it is all smashed up. The one online device location shows up in another neighborhood, so not sure about that. Just don't want to deactivate/erase the wrong device. I am doing this for my brother, so this is not my phone. Any advice? Thanks
