microsim tray to loose sim keeps falling out

I got my first iPad2 replaced today by the Apple Store due to the rear camera having a fault.

When I got home and un-boxed it the simtray in it has a few flaws on it but when I inserted my microsim into it when I turned the tray upside down the microsim fell out. The first faulty one when I inserted the sim into the tray it clicked in. But this one does not.

Does anyone else have this problem of the sim tray?

Also I find that this is totally unacceptable for a device of this cost to have flaws.

Yes I am complaining just to vent.

Do you think Apple Care/Genius will allow me to have a Leather smart cover for the trouble?

so does the sim tray come out of the ipad? does it come out of the tray while in the ipad and stops you connecting to 3g?

No its just when the tray is out when swapping the microsim cards around, that the sim falls out when the tray is upside down. Even when removing the tray from the iPad the sim fails out (since you have to have the iPad upside down to push the ejecting tool in to remove the tray.

Also I have noticed a few flaws/pits on the back of the iPad.

Since this is an exchange for my first one that was only three days old when I noticed that the rear facetime camera had a fault and ofc backlight bleeding. I am unsure if Apple Genius would swap it out again.

Is this for real?

From memory the microsim is actually intended to be placed on the underside of the microsim tray. I held mine in place until the front edge disappeared into the Ipad as I pusheded the microsim tray back into the Ipad. I am sure it would have fallen if I hadn't held it.

Yes it is for real.

My first one had the tray that snapped the sim in but this one doesn't.

And the fact that there is flaws on the tray and the back.

To quote someone from another forum "a-bit OCD with Apple products, they have to be prefect"

I guess it depends which way up your Ipad2 is!

but hopefully this will help:

I also guess it depends if the tray is intended to "hold" the microsim or not before insertion. TBH I don't think mine did, I assumed it was merely a mechanism to ensure the microsim was in the right place when the carrier tray was pushed back in - So I held my microsim in place as I pushed the tray back in.

Thanks for the link but it was un-needed

I will give the Apple Store a call tomorrow and find out what they can do for me (if they have the iPad that I own in-stock for replacements). Before booking a Genius bar appointment. Even if they offer money back and a case I will be happy. Other people get said things why should I stick with a defected device that I paid £660 for.

I guess I should thank you as I have yet to check my cameras work and I also did not check my sim tray could hold my sim without assistance.

Only trouble is, I have already paid for a leather smartcover, so hopefully they will just give you a replacement 10 cent plastic sim holder and send you on your way.

II tried to edit my previous message to add this but couldn't so as a PS:

Seems to me that the Apple customers expect excellence but also expect something for nothing when things don't go quite right.

Personally I don't think the remedy is a freebie SmartCover - Its only a replacement sim tray thats needed.

Apart from the pits on the back of the iPad? With some of us we have spend ££££ in the Apple Store and as such we expect perfection and when things do go wrong we expect to be given a goodwill gesture to keep us coming back again and again. Spending more of our money.

I wish you all the best in the world.. I can not see apple giving you a free cover for that though, however I hope you prove me wrong.

Yeah I think so but I can always ask. Some customers in the US gets free covers for some flaws, so hopefully I get a nice Store manager that thinks it would be better to give a freebie rather then exchanging it for another iPad wasting more products.

EDIT: I am going to kindly request that for the trouble of all this could I get either https://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC947ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU2Mjc&mco=MTcyMTgxODc or https://store.apple.com/uk/product/MA850G/B?fnode=MTc0MjU4ODc&mco=MTc5OTU4MTk

What does everyone think of that request of is it abit too much
