A friend with a ten-year-old iMac has replaced it with a new machine and wants to know how to erase the data from the old machine. (He would also like to know how to dispose of the machine when this is done.) He is not a computer expert, and neither am I. Is it possible that an Apple store technician can erase the data from his machine? I don't know what operating system he was using.
Yes, any Apple Store should be able to wipe your friend's hard drive as well as assist with re-sale or disposal processes that are required to remove this Mac's association with his Apple ID. I'm sure they could advise with proper disposal facility recommendations based on his location as well.
Thanks for your help, blackdogaudio! I'll have my friend call his local Apple store, and away we'll go! Best to you, billzav
You're very welcome!
