Mail has disappeared

Not the app, but all my saved emails have vanished on my iPad Air 2. I think this happened once before, so I deleted my account and restored it, but my Mail is still completely blank. I am running High Sierra on my iMac, but have not updated my iOS on the iPad, still running 10.3.3. The Mail on the desktop is fine. Any ideas? I use AT&T.
