How do I stop losing new drafts on Mail 10.3? m...

I'm running Mail 10.3. Mid-way through drafting emails, the new message window disappears but the message is not saved to my drafts, meaning I can't find it anywhere and I have to start over again. Anyone know what's going on and how to stop it? Alternatively, does anyone know where my drafts may be stored? The rest of the Mail App seems to be working as normal.

I recently upgraded to macOS Sierra OS version 10.12.6 and this problem only started after the switch.
