How can I get rid of a Congratulations

How can I get rid of a Congratulations-you-won.com-yourprize.com pop up window in Safari on my iPad?

It wants me to click on OK but I'm afraid it is a virus or something.

It reads:

Your iPad has chosen as today's lucky winner.

You have won a brand new iPhone 6.

Act quickly, and confirm you are the owner of this iPad.

Then there is only an OK button for me to push.

Everything else on the screen is gray. I can't access anything else on Safari.

I tried pressing the home button and sleep button at the same time to do a reset but this did not take care of the problem.

Please help.

Thanks!

Go to Settings, then Safari, then push the ""Clear History and Website Data".

It is not a virus.

What it is a phishing attack that is trying to steal your ID.

Do you know how I can get rid of it?

Thanks

Thanks Allan for the info!

It won't let me do anything else in Safari until I click on the Ok button. I should not do this right?

Do you know what I can do to remove the pop up so I can use Safari?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks Star Traveler! That got rid of the pop up!

Thanks for the help!!

You're welcome ... glad you didn't fall for their scam.

I got this on my ipad, and I turned off my wi-fi thinking that then I could click okay and get out of it without downloaded anything malicious. I clicked okay and it brought me to a page which I did not even read because I panicked at that point (I was not expecting any new page to appear because the wi-fi was off). So I clicked out of the window before I could think straight, and I don't even know what it said. Is it possible that they have installed anything on my ipad or stolen any information? I did go into settings and deleted my Safari history at that point. I am usually careful about these things but I lost my head for a moment.

Hi

Many thanks for the suggested Fix. I tried your method, twice, but I still have exactly the same problem. Do you have any further suggestions or advice?

Thanks

Stay away from pornographic websites and you won't get the issue.

Not at all true. There are many other kinds of sites out there where you will see these same scam pop-ups. Even a normal, legit site could be the victim of a problem like this, if it - or the ad network it uses for its advertising - gets hacked.

I'm not advocating going to p0rn sites, just saying that you're not going to avoid the problem just by avoiding them.

One of the websites you visit may have been bugged with the script. You'll have to find out what that site is and avoid accessing it until they fix the problem.

I bow to your superior expertise when it comes to Pornographic websites LogezP. It was actually tracked down to a security issue with a Wordpress Plug-in being used in all innocence on a Bloggers site.

Thank You for your help Thomas_r and ShagCA.

Just had (15 minutes ago) this same thing on my wife's iPhone. She uses the WeatherBug site and this afternoon, this popup appeared. I tried Clear Website settings, but that didn't work. I then deleted the WeatherBug app and reloaded it from iCloud in the App Store. That worked (so far).

Thanks! This helped me too!
