"Looks like you are listening on another device"

I'm home listening to apple music on my phone.  I get this error message that pops up that says "looks like you are listening on another device".  It then says, if you want to play here, just click play.  I hit play and it does it again.  I'm not listening on any other device at all.  There is nothing else playing anywhere.  Then, I tried to listen on my macbook pro.  I get the same message, continuing to pop up.  Please help.

Yes.  It's my daughter.  She can be listening to music at her mom's house

Bingo!

Why can't we listen at the same time?

On an individual plan, only one person can listen at a time.   That is how streaming services work.

Options are to consider a family plan, or she can get her own subscription, or you can change your password.

Is there somebody else using your Apple ID to stream music?

Yes.  It's my daughter.  She can be listening to music at her mom's house and I'm at mine and I cannot play music?  Why can't we listen at the same time?

ok thank you

So are we really are still on this that you can only listen to music on one device at a time. I would sign up for the family plan but it does not make sense since me and my spouse share an ID anyway. I have tried to have her use her own account and link them and it still does not work out as well as sharing an account.

S John,

See options in the green box above.

I've changed my apple id password.  No one else has it.  All of my iDevices and PCs are in my possession.  There is no one else listening.  I'm almost at the point where I will 86 my subscription.  Can't Apple tell me in the error message what the name of the other device is?

We have a family plan. I was driving home and listening on my Bose Bluetooth when it first started. It Never happened until now and we had the Verizon plan for along time.  Most monthly billls are over $400.  So I can't listen to

Music for $400.   Seems like Apples iOS update started it.  PS my tone isn't what I mean for it to be.  You all are helping. I realll appreciate it.  But reallly frustrated.  Onthe pop up message You hit the button and the play and maybe get 7 seconds before it pops up again.  Thanks to all of you smart people who help so much.

No one's talking about a family plan with your wireless carrier. They're talking about a family plan for Apple Music. They are too different things. In order for more than one person to listen to your Apple Music subscription at one time, you need the Family Plan for Apple Music. You'll then be able to use that over WiFi or cellular.

DWnAZ - Before you leave home, download a bunch of Apple Music songs to your iPhone, and then you can listen without using any further cellular data.  Go to this document => Use Apple Music in the Music app - Apple Support and follow the section on "Listen Offline."

I'm getting the same message but some if not most of my music is from my own CDs or music that I've paid for that I've added to iTunes. Does it treat all music under the one account the same?

Kbrebs,

If you signed up for Apple Music and iCloud Music library so that your "own music" is up in the cloud, then yes.

I have same challenge but I am not streaming music.  I am listening to music that I have downloaded onto my device.

It has all been purchased through the iTunes store.  This has also never happened until today 2/13
